Sonya Quijada

Meet Sonya

Sonya completed her first yoga teacher training in 2008, and has continued with trainings in trauma-informed recovery, kundalini yoga, yin yoga, Warriors International, restorative yoga, Warriors at Ease, and iRest Yoga Nidra guided meditation for anxiety, stress, insomnia, and chronic pain.

Her extensive expertise focuses on corrective, therapeutic biomechanics and accessible, adaptive yoga. Sonya is a combat veteran retired from the U.S. Army after 28 years of service. A Master Resilience Trainer for the military, she is also a certified wellness coach with a foundation of biology and neuroscience studies. Her personal experience as in-home resident caregiver for her grandmother, and then as parent raising a son on the autism spectrum, gives Sonya a wide sense of compassion, understanding, and wisdom in her teaching. She teaches in person and online, with descriptive verbal instructions to guide the movement, allowing time in the poses to explore and experience the effects. With humor and curiosity, Sonya uses the mind-body connection to build somatic awareness, opening to grace, healing injuries, living wholeheartedly, and aging with longevity.
